------------
Dear Families,

My name is Mr. Grandel. I am the orchestra director at the FRCS. I would like to encourage parents to consider their children learning a musical instrument and to join our orchestra program. I think it is very important for children to learn to play a musical instrument and to expose ourselves to beauty of music and arts.

Students in Third, Fourth and Fifth grade can join our beginner string orchestra. Our after-school orchestra program is free of charge.

The beginner string orchestra schedule is:
Mondays and Thursdays
3:00 p.m. 3:45 p.m. Beginner String Orchestra

Please return the completed form to me via email to [email protected]

I believe the best way to prepare a child to play an instrument properly is to provide them with private lessons with a professional music instructor. I can provide a list of recommended local music teachers.  The private lessons are typically $30 per half hour on a weekly basis. If you need an instrument, I can recommend a place to purchase or rent one locally.

Click here and here to view two short TED talks about the importance of learning a musical instrument.
Also, be sure to check out these videos from the previous FRCS showcases including percussion, brass and string instruments. These can help your children to decide if they are interested in learning to play an instrument.
The returning intermediate orchestra students (or new students who have been playing for several years ) are scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays at 3:00-3:45. There is no need to reregister, just to let Mr. Grandel know you will be participating again.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Be sure to spread the word and let other FRCS families know about our orchestra program!

Sincerely,
Mr. Grandel
