Grade 8

 

If you are a rising 8th grade student, meaning in September 2024 you will start 8th grade, this section is for you.


Students will continue to have access to their online school programs by using their school emails and passwords:

  • IXL- Math
  • Lexia- Phonics/ word study
  • I-Ready - math
  • Duolingo - spanish
  • Blooket - all subject independent games
  • Gimkit - all subject independent games

English

To prepare for 8th grade English, students should follow along with responding to each weekly prompt in this Journal Prompt Packet.


Students can practice their grammar, language, and reading skills by making a copy of this review packet and putting in answers or printing a copy to write on.


Finally, students should aim to read at least 30 minutes a day. A list of suggested books is below:

Math

Students can prepare for 8th grade math by reviewing 7th Grade skills using Khan Academy for 15-30 minutes a week. Using I-Ready for target support will also help. Finally, students should aim to complete this 7th grade skills packet.

Spanish

Scholars could work on the following during summer:

  • Duolingo practice / at least 25 minutes a day to continue reinforcing their reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. 
  • EPIC / READ Bilingual books over the summer for 25 minutes.
    • Account is free!!! Just create one for your student and they will be able to access amazing bilingual books! 

Science

To prepare for 8th grade science, students should continue try the following over the summer:


Civics

Students coming into 8th grade need to be able to define, escribe, and comfortably engage in conversations about the following topics: direct democracy, jury, representative democracy, and civic duty.


To engage with these terms and revisit moments in American US history, students can play through the games on iCivics and watch videos through PBS Learning Media Election Central content and US History Collection.
